Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Warrior women romp past The Master's

LEWISTON, Idaho – A dominant third quarter was just what Lewis-Clark State's women's basketball team needed to propel it past The Master's University 90-74 in a non-conference game Friday night at the LC Activity Center.

With the game tied at 37 at the end of the first two quarters, the Warriors (3-0) used eight players to account for the 34-point outburst during the 10-minute span. It was just what their head coach wanted to see.

"We hit some baskets right off the top and got the rhythm going," coach Brian Orr said. "I thought we shot the ball really well in the second half."

The Warriors connected on 18 of 30 field goals in the second half (12 of 18 in the third quarter) to show glimpses of their trademark efficient offense. They wound up shooting 47.1 percent from the field and 84 percent from the free throw line. Then, there was their defense.

"I was really disappointed in our defensive effort in the first half," Orr said. "We wanted everything to be tough. We wanted zero fast break points."

What they saw was a The Master's team that shot 44.1 percent in the first two quarters and kept them on the run. For that, Orr passed credit to the Mustangs.

"You have to give The Master's a ton of credit," he said.

He had plenty to pass around to his team, which wound up six double-figure scorers and every player with at least one rebound, too.

"We had great performances from everyone that stepped in," Orr said. "They contributed in a positive way."

Hailey Turner had 16 points to lead the Warriors, while Lauren Johnson and Jossilyn Blackman had 14 each. Brittany Tackett and Jansen Edmiston each had 13 points, and Peyton Souvenir came off the bench for 11. Johnson had eight assists and Souvenir had five. Blackman was the team's top rebounder with eight.
