Box Score LEWISTON, Idaho – Seaver Whalen tallied 4 RBI with a homerun and
Kevin Hamann threw seven innings for his sixth win of the season as the LCSC baseball team defeated Saint Katherine 7-2 in the series-opener on Friday.
The win gives the Warriors their fifth-straight and improved to 24-12. The Firebirds fall to 18-21 on the season.
Saint Katherine, a small school of roughly 100 students from the suburbs of San Diego, was not intimidated by the bright lights and prestige of the No. 18 team in the nation. They struck in the top of the first, bringing six people to plate, taking a 1-0 lead after the top of the first.
The Warriors responded with Whalen's 3-run homer, bringing home
Raymond Pedrina and
Micah Brown in the bottom of the inning.
In the third, LCSC struck again.
Logan Griffin singled plating Whalen for a 4-1 lead. Whalen added his other RBI with a single in the fourth scoring
Chase Hafer.
Both teams added a run in the seventh but the Warriors prevailed.
Brown tallied a team-high three hits on the night. Hamann threw his seven innings allowing nine hits, two earned runs with seven strikeouts.
Henry McAree threw two innings of relief allowing just a walk with his four strikeouts.
The two teams will meet for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. The LCSC Athletic Department will be hosting an Easter Egg Hunt before the game at noon for kids 12 and under.
