Respect is the key word for the Lewis-Clark State volleyball team as it heads to Montana for Frontier Conference matches at Providence and Montana-Northern Friday and Saturday.
Â
"We talk about respect – every set is not given to you," coach
LaToya Harris-Alexander said. "We have to make sure we put the ball down; that we're not relying on the other team to give it to us."
Â
The Warriors (6-9 overall, 1-3 in conference play) have had bouts of inconsistency this fall. Harris-Alexander is hoping a re-focus on the basics will keep her team on track for back-to-back wins after their victory at home last Saturday against Montana-Western.
Â
"We had a couple of great sets against Western where we were solid and consistent," she said. "We were more disciplined."
Â
Being on the road, however, can change the dynamics.
Â
"We have to be able to go above and beyond," she said. "We need to look to each other for help. We need everyone to do their own job."
Â
Harris-Alexander will be looking to junior
Rachel Gregg as well as senior
Natalie Batiste to provide the leadership this weekend. Gregg is tied for third in the conference with 2.9 kills per set and Batiste is seventh at 2.7. Gregg also is tied for fourth in service aces per set (0.3). Junior
Lauren West is third in assists per set with 7.5 and is tied for seventh in total assists with 329 in 44 sets. Junior
Luana Thompson is third in digs per set at 4.8 and is sixth in total digs with 241.
