Warriors finally home!

LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State's volleyball team is home for the first time this fall and coach LaToya Harris-Alexander is looking to see how well the lessons learned during the Warriors' rigorous road schedule translate to their home court.

The Warriors (3-6 overall) take on Walla Walla University Friday at 5 p.m. and Whitman College Saturday, also at 5 p.m. Over the weekend, the players will be honoring their families during the annual Parents Weekend games as well as taking part in National Teddy Bear Day. National Teddy Bear Day is Saturday and anyone bringing a new Teddy Bear to the game will be admitted without charge. The bears will be donated to the Lewis-Clark Early Childhood Program.

As for the competition on the court, Harris-Alexander said a lineup has solidified, and the communication and teamwork have improved.

"This past week we've been strengthening the lineup," said Harris-Alexander, whose team is coming off of a two-week competition break after spending the first 10 days of the season on the road. "We're seeing that flow and connection on the court. We needed them to understand a little bit more what is expected in their positions."

While she's always applauded her team's aggressive nature, Harris-Alexander said the Warriors needed a more determined defensive mentality.

"They need to be aggressive on the defensive end," she said. "We have to win those long rallies; we need to find someone to put the ball away."

Walla Walla started the week 1-5 but has a home match Thursday night against Multnomah before traveling to Lewiston Friday. Whitman is 0-4 with all of its losses to Top 25 teams. The Blues won an exhibition match Wednesday night against Blue Mountain Community College.
