LEWISTON, Idaho – There was the hot 10-0 start. Then the inexplicable meltdown. Then the result: a 66-57 loss to Rocky Mountain by the Lewis-Clark State women's basketball team in Frontier Conference action Thursday evening at the Activity Center.
Warrior coach
Brian Orr could list the many factors that led to the loss. Too many turnovers; not enough assists. Good first half defense; not so much in the second half. Second-chance points for the Battlin' Bears; a lackluster attack from the Warriors.
"It was frustrating to watch," said Orr after the Warriors dropped to 12-6 overall and 3-4 in league play. "We just couldn't get it going on either end.
"So many little things in tonight's game."
Even though the Warriors were able to forge a couple of second-half leads, the Battlin' Bears (15-2, 5-2) kept recovering – often scoring off turnovers (15 points) and second-chance opportunities (11).
"We executed at times," Orr said. "I thought our defense was pretty good in the first half. I thought their defense was really good in the second half. It just came down to toughness. Rocky was the tougher team tonight."
The Warriors were led by freshman
Peyton Souvenir with 15 points and four assists. Junior
Hailey Turner and freshman
Delaney Henery had eight each. Junior
Jossilyn Blackman had nine rebounds and
Abbie Johnson, another freshman, had eight.
The Warriors are at home against Saturday afternoon at 2 when they take on Carroll College in another Frontier Conference game.
