WAA Announces 2018 High School Awards Winners

LEWISTON, Idaho – The Warrior Athletic Association held its 12th-annual High School Awards banquet on Wednesday night to honor the achievements of local area high school teams, coaches, student-athletes and those that help the programs run.

Tona Anderson (Deary High School) and Layton Paul (Potlatch High School) took home Athlete of the Year awards, while Colton Girls Basketball took home the Team of the Year honor. Ryan Hasslestrom of Prairie High School Football was named Coach of the Year and Bill Jensen of Lewiston High School was awarded the Rick Hill Meritorious Award. Sue Doering, who recently retired after coaching girls volleyball at Colfax High School for 30 years, was honored with the Excellence Award.

Troy High School, Summit Academy and Prairie High School each received $500 scholarships to Lewis-Clark State College to be awarded to the student of their choice.

Female Athlete of the Year: Tona Anderson (Deary), Emily Schultheis (Colton), Sydney Watko (Pomeroy)
Male Athlete of the Year: Nic Griffin (Troy), Layton Paul (Potlatch), Emmit Taylor III (Lapwai)
Team of the Year: Colton Girls Basketball, Lapwai Boys Basketball, Prairie Football
Coach of the Year: Sue Doering (Colfax), Ryan Hasselstrom (Prairie), Clark Vining (Colton)
Rick Hill Meritorious Award: Bill Jensen (Lewiston), Don Renz (Potlatch), Joanne Teats (Clearwater Valley)
