KIRKLAND, Wash. - The Lewis-Clark State Women's Basketball Team earned their sixth-straight win to begin their season 6-0 with a win over Northwest University (Wash.). Abbie Johnson led the Warriors in the 89-53 win with a career-high tying 14 points.
Hailey Turner kicked off the game with a jumper 30 seconds in to give LC a quick 2-0 lead. After the Eagles hit a three, the Warriors went on a 11-point run beginning with a three-pointer from Johnson at 7:20. Johnson finished the run with another triple at 4:45 and LC led 17-11 at the end of the first quarter.
Abby Farmer hit a three on a fast break with an assist from Cali Moscrip to open the second quarter and put LC up 20-11. Emily Banks drained a shot from behind the arc with 5:12 to play in the half and Johnson pushed the lead to 35-20 with a jumper in the final minute. The Warriors went to halftime with a 35-24 advantage.
A pair of free throws from Jossilyn Blackman sparked a second 11-point run for the Warriors to begin the second half. A layup from Banks capped the run with LC in front 48-28 at the 4:27 mark. A nine-point rally by LC lasted  two minutes and closed out the third quarter. Kiara Burlage sparked the run with a layup and ended it with a free throw as LC held a lead of 60-37 heading into the final frame.
Blackman began the fourth quarter the same way she did the third, sinking two free throws to get the momentum going for the Warriors. LC put up 29 points in the fourth quarter alone, fueled by six each from Johnson and Burlage. The Warrior offense proved too strong for the Eagles to handle and LC cruised to an 89-53 victory.
"This was definitely our best defensive performance of the season so far," Head Coach Brian Orr said. "We were able to to force them into taking tough shots and we turned several steals into easy baskets. I thought we attacked the rim and shot it well tonight. This was definitely a total team effort."
As mentioned, Johnson led the Warriors with 14 points. Banks was just behind with 13 points and Blackman dropped 10 for her sixth double-digit point game of the season. Johnson, Blackman, Burlage and Peyton Souvenir all grabbed eight rebounds in the contest. Blackman, Souvenir and Johnson all had strong showings at the free throw line, going 6-8, 5-6 and 4-5, respectively.
The Warriors face Corban tomorrow at 1 p.m. to continue the tournament in Kirkland, Wash.
