BUTTE, Mont. – The Lewis-Clark State Volleyball Team earned its second-straight sweep (25-18, 25-17, 25-21) of the Carroll College Fighting Saints in the Frontier Conference Quarterfinals to advance to the Semifinals. The Warriors dominated the match from the start, taking the first two sets easily before coming from behind to win the final set.
"All season it has been about the process, and today the team bought in and made the choice to make Warrior Volleyball a priority," Head Coach
Shaun Pohlman said. "We hope to continue to make the process work for us."
Rachel Gregg and
Olivia Jarvis teamed up to bring down eight kills each, and the defense held Carroll to just a .010 attack percentage.
Gregg broke a 3-3 tie in the first set with a kill before
Gionni Brown added another to push LC ahead 7-3. A pair of kills from
Aubrey King cushioned the lead to five at 10-5, and a pair from Gregg brought the lead to 16-8. A kill by
Olivia Jarvis from
Lauren West brought the score to set point, and Gregg closed it out with a kill at 25-18.
The Warriors jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second set with two kills from
Alexa Van Vleet and an ace from West. Points from Gregg and
Brooke Kaawa lengthened the advantage to 7-1. Blocks from King and Van Vleet fueled two three-point runs to push the score to 18-9 and an attack error ended the set at 25-17.
LC had to play a bit of catch-up in the third set after falling behind 16-13.
Jordan Phelan tallied a kill to swing the momentum back on the Warriors' side, and a block by Kaawa and Van Vleet knotted the set 18-18. A solo block by Jarvis gave LC a 21-19 lead. A four-point run was fueled by a kill from Jarvis, block by Gregg and Jarvis, and a service ace from
Hannah Pond as the Warriors took set three 25-21.
As mentioned, the defense was solid for the Warriors and held the Saints to a .010 attack percentage. LC put up four solo blocks and eight block assists, led by Van Vleet with three. Brown collected 15 digs, Gregg had 11 and Phelan tallied 10.
On offense, Jarvis hit .400 with eight kills in 15 attempts and Van Vleet hit .500 with seven kills in 12 attempts.
With the win, the Warriors advance to the Frontier Conference Semifinals. If the higher seeds win, LC will face No. 8 Rocky Mountain College on Saturday at 10 a.m.
