Warriors Defeat Georgia Gwinnett

LEWISTON,  Idaho – Lewis-Clark State bounced back from a doubleheader loss, defeating Georgia Gwinnett 7-6 Thursday, to split the four-game series.  LC recorded its second walk-off victory against the Grizzlies, with Warrior Kade Woods turning in the best pitching performance of the week.

Pinch hitter Matt Thompson's ninth-inning RBI single to left scored Tyler McDowell from second with one out for the winning run.  McDowell walked to start the inning, and Makana Victorine sacrificed him to second.  The Grizzlies walked Kody Garvin intentionally, and Thompson followed with his game winner.

LC jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Kasey Bailey had an RBI triple, then scored on Cory Voss' sac fly.  McDowell then hit his third home run of the season.  Georgia pulled to within 3-2 in the second when C.J. Ballard doubled home two teammates.

A wild pitch, and Bailey's RBI sixth-inning double gave the Warriors a 5-2 lead, and a Grizzly error in the eighth upped LC's lead to 6-2.  GGC pulled to 6-4 in the top of the ninth, and with two outs, Grizzly first baseman Alex Garland sent the game into the bottom of the ninth with a two-run home run.

Woods pitched the first six innings for LC, holding Georgia Gwinnett to two runs, while striking out four.  Not a small feat, after the Grizzlies had scored a combined 41 runs in the preceding two games.  Joseph Riley picked his first victory, pitching the final three innings, and not allowing an earned run.

Joey Parente led LC offensively, going 3-3, while Bailey and McDowell each added two hits. The Warriors will now entertain the College of Idaho in a four-game series, starting Saturday at noon.
