Trainor’s Blast Propels Warriors Over Coyotes

CALDWELL, Idaho –  Darren Trainor's first Warrior home run propelled Lewis-Clark State to a 12-4 victory over the College of Idaho Sunday.  With the victory, LC took three-of-four NAIA West games against the Coyotes in the weekend series.

Trainor's three-run blast came in the seventh inning, breaking open a 4-4 tie. The Coyotes had taken a 1-0 lead in the first before Raymond Pedrina tied it in the second with an RBI single.  A.J. Davis gave the Warriors a 3-2 lead with a two-run double in the fourth inning, and Kyle Callahan tripled in Riley Way in the fifth to help LC go up 4-2.

However, the lead was short-lived, as College of Idaho tied it in the bottom of the inning, and the game stayed that way until Trainor's dinger gave LC a 7-4 lead.

That seemed to wake up the rest of the Warrior bats, as they added four more runs in the eighth, and a solo tally in the ninth.  Kasey Bailey provided the big stick in the eighth with a two-run double.  Trainor followed with his team-high fourth RBI, a single scoring Bailey.  Mason Verge brought in the fourth run of the inning with single to left.

The Warrior's final run came off the bat of Cory Voss.  The Warrior leading RBI man singled in A.J. Davis to raise his season RBI total to 43.

LC starting pitcher Rian Bassett went the first five innings, but left with the game tied for no decision.  Bassett gave up six hits and four runs, while striking out two.  Joseph Riley (3-0) pitched three innings of relief for the win.  Riley did not allow a hit while walking one and striking out three Coyotes.  Gage Burland finished on the mound for LC, striking out two in his one inning of relief.

Voss went 3-5, to lead five Warriors with multiple hits, including Raymond Pedrina who had two doubles.

LC (29-8, 19-4 NAIA West) won the season series over the Coyotes (11-33, 4-24 NAIA West), winning seven-of-eight games.

The Warriors next play a five-game series at Oregon Tech starting Saturday at 6 PM.
