MONMOUTH, Ore. – Lewis-Clark State took a break from NAIA West play Wednesday afternoon, but continued on the road, picking up a victory over NCAA II Western Oregon. The Warriors (34-9), playing their 14th consecutive road game, defeated the Wolves 11-2 in a game that had been rescheduled twice due to weather conditions.
Warrior starter Anthony Toribio pitched four scoreless innings, allowing four hits, and striking out two. He then gave way to four Warrior relievers, Brady Tedesco, Matt Becker, Tanner Simpson and Joseph Riley, who held the Wolves to just two runs and three hits the final five innings. Simpson (2-0) went two innings for the victory.
The Wolves held LC off the scoreboard until the fifth inning when Raymond Pedrina was hit by a pitch, and advanced to second on Kasey Bailey's single. Tyler McDowell's two-out single brought in Pedrina for LC's first run. Bailey then scored on the back end of an attempted steal, when McDowell was caught stealing second base.
The Warriors increased the lead to 3-0 in the sixth inning on Riley Way's RBI single. Western Oregon answered back in the bottom of the inning with a two-out, two-run double, to pull within 3-2. The Warriors then scored eight unanswered runs.
After LC made it 4-2 in the seventh with a sacrifice fly by McDowell, they broke the game open in the final two innings, scoring seven runs.
Pedrina and Cory Voss each had RBI singles in the eighth as LC pushed four runs across. In the ninth, Mason Verge connected on an RBI double, and A.J. Davis added an RBI single to finish the scoring.
Pedrina went 3-4 and scored three runs to lead the Warriors, who collected 14 hits.
LC jumps back into league play Friday when they travel to Keizer, Ore. to begin a four-game series with Corban University.
