Big Inning Leads Warriors Over UBC

VANCOUVER, B.C.  – Cory Voss hit two doubles, and Kyle Callahan had four RBI in Lewis-Clark State's most productive inning of the year, leading the Warriors to a 16-4 victory over British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C. Saturday.  With its second consecutive NAIA West victory, LC ups its league record to 16-2, while the Thunderbirds drop to 14-9.  LC (26-6) and UBC (20-18) will play the finale of the four-game series Sunday at 11 AM.

The Warriors trailed 3-1 before erupting for a season-high 12 runs in the third inning.  Voss' doubles accounted for three Warrior runs in the inning, in which LC sent 15 to the plate.  Callahan had an RBI single in his first at bat in the inning, and added a three-run home run, his fourth of the season, his next appearance in the inning.  Seven LC players reached base via walks, and two were hit by pitch.

Joey Parente's  first home run of the season, a two-run blast in the eighth inning, extended LC's lead to 15-3, before Callahan finished off the Warrior scoring with a ninth inning RBI double.

Callahan led the Warriors with five RBI and three hits.  Voss, who put LC ahead 1-0 in the first inning with his team-leading eighth home run of the year, finished with four RBI.

The 12-run inning was more than enough for Warrior pitchers Rian Bassett and Joseph Riley.  After giving up three runs in the first two innings, Bassett (4-1) surrendered just two hits in his final three innings, and no runs, to earn the win.  He struck out four, walked two, and allowed just one earned run.  Riley pitched the final four innings, earning his fourth save of the year.  Riley retired eight straight batters before Thunderbird Austen Butler hit a two-out home run in the ninth.
