LEWISTON, Idaho – The Warriors stayed hot at home with a four-set win (25-17, 25-15, 23-25, 25-13) over Montana Western on Saturday. After taking the first two sets by wide margins, the Bulldogs battled back to take set three. The Warriors bounced back well, earning the victory in the fourth set by a strong 12 points.
LC got off to a strong start in the opening set with a pair of kills from
Aubrey King and one from
Rachel Gregg to put the Warriors up 5-2. LCSC strung together six-straight with the help of a pair of aces from
Jordan Phelan and a block by
Lauren West and
Alexa Van Vleet to go up 12-5. Back-to-back aces from West and kills by King and
Olivia Jarvis combined for a five-point run to stretch the advantage to 20-12 and a kill by
Mikayla Sellers-Wiebe from
Gionni Brown ended the set at 25-17.
After a kill by
Hayley Alvarez to start the second set, Gregg gave the Warriors three points on kills to jump out to a 5-2 lead. They maintained a comfortable lead throughout the set before sprinting ahead with five unanswered points with a pair of kills from King and one my Sellers-Wiebe to earn the 25-15 victory in set two.
The Warriors seemed in control heading into set three, taking a 13-8 lead on six-straight with a kill from Van Vleet, a pair from
Brooke Kaawa and three from Gregg. The Bulldogs fought back in the third, making the set the tightest of the match. The Bulldogs went on a huge 8-1 run to come all the way back and take the third set 25-23.
Sellers-Wiebe got things started in the fourth set for the Warriors with a pair of kills to give LC momentum. The Warriors struck for three-straight with a Gregg kill,
Sydney Lawrence ace and a block from King and Jarvis to stretch their advantage to 7-4. An 8-1 run fueled by kills from Alvarez, King and Gregg was capped by a kill by Lawrence to push the lead to 20-10. A kill by Alvarez from West pushed the set to match point and a Bulldog attack error ended things at 25-13.
Gregg and Alvarez each notched a double-double, with Gregg tallying 18 kills with 10 digs and Alvarez collecting a career-high 26 assists with 11 digs. King added double-digit kills with 12 and Brown did her part covering the court with 22 digs.
Hannah Pond was not far behind with 13 digs.
The Warriors hit the road next week as they head to Montana to take on Carroll College on Friday at 6 p.m. and No. 20 Montana Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m.
