No. 16 Warriors edged by No. 8 Carroll

LEWISTON, Idaho – The No. 16 Lewis-Clark State Warriors had their win-streak snapped on Thursday night against the No. 8 Carroll College Fighting Saints. Despite a double-double from Jossilyn Blackman, the Warriors fell 60-53.

The first quarter started slow with the Warriors leading 4-2 on a jumper by Abbie Johnson half way through the period. Cali Moscrip added to the advantage with two free throws before the Saints took the lead at the 4:15 mark. At the close of the first 10 minutes, Carroll led 16-8.

The Saints continued to grow their lead in the second frame, leading LC by as much as 12 before heading into halftime with a 34-23 advantage.

Carroll saw their largest lead of the game at the 6:22 mark in the third quarter when a layup put them up 41-25.

LC gained momentum in the fourth quarter, mounting a comeback to cut their deficit to two points. A free throw by Kiara Burlage sparked run of nine unanswered points for the Warriors at 6:15. The sophomore added back-to-back buckets and one more free throw before hitting one more basket to bring her total to eight in the four-minute span. At the end of the run, LC trailed 53-51 with 2:14 to play.

This is as close as they would come, however, as the contest closed 60-53 in favor of the Saints.

"In a lot of ways, we didn't play to our potential," Head Coach Brian Orr said. "I want to give Carroll all the credit in the world because they got the stretch and every time we looked to make a run they had an answer."

Blackman and Burlage led the Warriors in scoring with 10 points each, and Blackman notched her ninth-career double-double with 10 boards. Hailey Turner added eight points.

Carroll's Brittney Johnson led the game with 16 points, and Christine Denny grabbed 12 boards. Hannah Dean was also in double-digit scoring with 10 points.

The Warriors look to bounce back on Saturday when they host No. 22 Rocky Mountain College at 2 p.m. in the Activity Center.
