DILLON, Mont. - The No. 13 Lewis-Clark State men's basketball team controlled the game from tip off in their 74-58 win over Montana Western on Friday night. After an absolutely dominant opening three minutes, the Warriors never looked back on their way to their 21st win of the season.
"It was a great defensive road performance for our guys tonight against a scrappy and tough Montana Western team," coach Austin Johnson said. "Another night where our depth was on display both offensively and defensively. Trystan (Bradley) had one of his best games as a college player which was encouraging."
The Warriors opened the game with 10-straight points, led by six from Trystan Bradley, to take a commanding lead early in the first half. It took just three minutes for LC to build their advantage and Race Martin added on with a 3 at the 14:17 mark.
LC continued to hold a strong lead over the Bulldogs, keeping a cushion of around 10 points between the two conference opponents, aided by a six-point stretch with points from Martin, Bradley and Derrick White.
The Warrior defense held UMW off the board for five of the final six minutes of the half and LC led 38-27 heading into the locker room.
An eight-point rally, sparked by Bradley at 17:23 in the second half, widened the gap and had LC up 48-29 at 15:59. Cordel Hankerson snapped a small run by the Bulldogs at 14:04 with an easy layup to build LC's momentum once again.
The Warriors saw their largest lead of the game, 59-39, at 10:46 with a free throw from Josiah Westbrook. Mitchell repeated the 20-point advantage at 6:20 with a triple to put LC up 69-49. LC did not let up and won 74-58.
Bradley led the Warriors with 17 points in the contest and White added 11. Martin and Shedrick each grabbed five rebounds.
The Warrior defense was out in full force and forced 17 Bulldog turnovers while committing just six. They snagged seven steals.
"We'll have to rest up and prepare quickly for a very good Montana Tech team and their home environment," Johnson said.
LC faces Montana Tech tomorrow in Butte, Mont. at 6:30 p.m. PT.
