LEWISTON, Idaho – The Lewis-Clark State baseball team completed their first shutout of the season in game one of Sunday's doubleheader against Oregon Tech, winning 7-0 behind a season-high 15 hits. Zach Needham and Darren Trainor provided the power at the plate with a home run each, while A.J. Davis was a perfect 5-for-5 in game one. Trainor provided the walk-off in game two with a sacrifice fly to center for a 4-3 win.
"We were better in the first game than we were the second game," coach Jake Taylor said. "We waited until the ninth but we scratched a few across and put a few together. We certainly pitched it well today in both games."
GAME ONE: LCSC def. Oregon Tech 7-0

Rian Bassett took over on the mound in the top of the sixth, ending Simpson's day with five innings pitched and eight strikeouts.
The Owls tried to break up the shutout in the sixth, but a throw to home from Riley Way and great play at the plate by Darren Trainor kept Oregon Tech off the board.
Jaden Phillips dropped a single into shallow left to start the home half of the sixth. Way shot a ball into the right field gap for an RBI triple before coming around to score on a single by Needham to push the LC advantage to 5-0 after six.
The Warriors added onto their lead in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a big fly from Trainor. Davis singled before the blast to make it a two-run shot.
Gerald Hein came in to close out the game and sat the owls down in order to complete the 7-0 win.
Davis was a perfect 5-for-5 in game one and scored a pair of runs. Needham and Trainor both homered in the contest and both had two RBI. Trainor's two hits extended his hit-streak to six games.
Simpson earned his first win of the season after not allowing a run through five innings while striking out eight.
GAME TWO: LCSC def. Oregon Tech 4-3
Oregon Tech gained the upper hand after a two-run third inning. Lalo Porras settled in after and finished his six innings with eight punch outs.
The Warrior offense struck in the bottom of the sixth. Callahan reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a single by Garvin to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Greg Blackman took the mound in the top of the seventh and quickly sat Oregon Tech down in order. After giving up a run in the eighth, the Warriors escaped a bases-loaded jam with minimal damage. They trailed 3-1 heading into the bottom of eight.
Duran and Jeff Bart led off the bottom of the ninth with back-to-back singles before Makana Victorine reached on a fielder's choice. Phillips relieved Victorine on the bases.
A single off the bat of Way brought LC within one, and a sacrifice fly from Needham knotted things up 3-3. Trainor provided the winning run with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Phillips who beat the throw home.
"I was just trying to get it in the air there," Trainor said. "I got just enough of it and Jaden made a great slide there. That was big."
Needham led the offense with two hits in game two. Davis finished his day going 6-for-7 at the plate with two walks.
"I was just sticking with my approach and seeing the ball up," Davis said.
