CALDWELL, Idaho - The Lewis-Clark State baseball team dropped their third-straight game on Friday in the opening contest of the four-game set at the College of Idaho. Despite a strong performance from starter Tyler Burch, the Warriors' bats were kept quiet by the Yotes and LC fell 4-1.
"Tyler threw well again and gave us a chance," coach Jake Taylor said. "We didn't have a lot of opportunities but when we did we couldn't come up with a clutch hit."
Burch got the start on the mound for LC and worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the first including two strikeouts. He added one more in the home half of the second.
A.J. Davis reached in the top of the third on a hit-by-pitch before Riley Way lined a single out of the reach of the diving shortstop. Darren Trainor collected his second hit of the day on an RBI single to left to put the Warriors up 1-0.
The Yotes quickly answered back to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third on two hits and a sacrifice fly. They tacked on two more in the bottom of the sixth and that was all needed to take the game.
Burch gave up just four hits and two earned runs while striking out seven in six innings of work. Matt Becker came on for two solid innings in relief and did not walk a batter or allow a hit.
The Yotes benefited from a complete-game gem by Hunter Boyd. He allowed one run on six hits and struck out four.
Trainor led the Warriors at the plate with two hits and the lone RBI.
The Warriors continue the series down in Caldwell tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
