Marissa Louder and freshman
Carlos Davila led the Lewis-Clark State golf teams during the opening round of the Frontier Conference Tournament Monday as the Warrior women are in second and the men third with two rounds to play.
Both Louder and Davila are in second with Davila at two-over 74 – three back of first day leader Sean Benson of Montana Tech, and Louder is six-over 78 – one back of leader Eryn Ellis of Rocky Mountain. In the team competitions, the Warrior men at 308 are six strokes back of co-leaders Rocky Mountain and Montana Tech. Rocky Mountain is the women's leader at 324 with the Warriors at 341.
"On the women's side, it was a little rough," coach
Kyla Lien said. "We just couldn't get anything going all day. They had a hard time hitting greens in regulation."
Lien said a good first round for the men should help them going into the next two days.
"The men had a good round," Lien said. "They had a tough time with their short game but I think having that first round under their belts will give them some good confidence for the next two days."
Backing Davila's 74 were
Devon Caruso in a tie for sixth with a 75,
Zach Rawls in a tie for 11
th with a 77.
Caleb Kessler is 20
th with an 82 and
Justin Cox is tied for 25
th with an 86.
Adding to Louder's total for the women,
Madilyn Brown is seventh (86),
Lauren Hamm is eighth (88),
Natalie Gonzales is tied for ninth (89) and
Megan Gibson is 12
th (91).
The tournament continues with 18 holes Tuesday and Wednesday.
