Warriors Finish 2019 Home Games with Sweep of Corban

LEWISTON, Idaho – In their final home games of the regular season, the Lewis-Clark State College baseball team completed a sweep of the Corban Warriors. After a walk-off walk in game one, the offense exploded for 15 runs in game two.

With the pair of wins, LC continued the streak of at least 30 wins in a season started back in 1975.

"It was good to get back out here today," coach Jake Taylor said. "We were a little sleepy in game one, but recovered. Corban competed well. In game two we got after them early."

GAME ONE: LCSC def. Corban 7-6
Corban's offense struck early with two runs on two in the top of the first before adding one more in the second to take a 3-0 lead.

Makana Victorine brought LC back into the game with a two-run shot off the batter's eye in the Warriors' half of the second. A Kody Garvin single before the blast helped cut the deficit to 3-2 after two.

Riley Way evened the score in the bottom of the third with a single to center to knock in A.J. Davis. Way made his way around to third with a steal and scored on a double to shallow left off the bat of Zach Needham. Garvin followed suit with a double into the right field corner to give LC a 5-3 advantage.

Corban picked up a run in the fifth, and LC answered with one in the seventh. Thomas Lampkin Jr. singled to open the bottom half of the inning and Davis walked for the third-straight time, before both moved up 90 feet on a balk. A sacrifice fly by Way brought the score to 6-4 in favor of LC.

A two-run homer for Corban in the top of the ninth knotted things up at six each, but the Walk-Off Warriors made an appearance in the bottom of the inning. Kyle Callahan led the inning off with a single and Way moved pinch runner Jesus Duran to second with a sacrifice bunt. Needham and Garvin were issued intentional walks before Jeff Bart walked to bring in the game-winning run.

Garvin led LC with three hits in the game and Victorine had two. Way and Victorine each had two RBI.

Tanner Simpson took over on the mound in the top of the ninth and earned the win. Andrew Najeeb-Brush tossed 3.1 innings in relief of starter Tyler Burch.

GAME TWO: LCSC def. Corban 15-2
The Warriors struck first in the second inning. Callahan walked and moved to third on a double to the gap in right center by Way. Both scored on a sacrifice fly by Garvin to put LC up 2-0.

Corban fought back with a pair in the fourth to even the game at 2-2.

A big seven-run fourth inning put the LC Warriors in control of game two. Darren Trainor shot a single to center in the LC half of the fourth and Duran took over on the bases. Duran stole second then took third on a failed pick-off attempt before scoring on a wild pitch. Two more runs came in to score on back-to-back doubles from Garvin and Jaden Phillips. Dalton Duarte brought in a run on a groundout.

Bart wore a pitch off the arm and Lampkin Jr. walked before the pair pulled off a double-steal. Davis sent a single into left to bring in the pair before taking second in the throw. Trainor dropped a double just inside the line in right field to put LC up 9-2.

Jesse Parker got the Warriors out of a bases-loaded jam with a pair of strikeouts to end the threat in the top of the fifth.

Way led off the LC half of the fifth with a triple and quickly scored on a single by Garvin. Phillips walked and a high chopper through the left side added to the cushion. A hit from Lampkin Jr. and home run from Trainor brought the score to 15-2 after five innings.

After a quick 1-2-3 top of the sixth with Gerald Hein on the mound, Joe Riley came on in the seventh to close out the game via the run-rule.

Way and Trainor led the Warriors with three hits in game two. Garvin notched two for a total of five on the day. Trainor also tallied four RBI in the contest while Garvin knocked in three.

The Warriors hit the road for the remainder of the regular season starting Wednesday at NCAA DI Seattle U.
