Warriors Score Early and Often in 23-3 Win Over OIT

LEWISTON, Idaho - The Lewis-Clark State baseball team made its offensive presence known in game one of its final conference series of the season. The Warriors totaled six home runs in their 23-3 victory over the Oregon Tech Owls, their highest run total since 2017. Jeff Bart notched two big flies and Justin Hammergren struck out eight in his five innings of work.

"We had a great overall aggressive approach at the plate today," coach Jake Taylor said.

The Warriors struck early and often, starting with an unearned run in the top of the first. A Thomas Lampkin Jr. double brought in two more in the second.

After OIT struck for three in the third, Bart homered for the first time in Friday's contest in the fourth, a two run shot, to put LC back in front.

LC put up a big crooked number in the fifth. They rallied for 14 runs on 10 hits and sent every batter to the plate at least twice. Zach Needham, Kody Garvin, Kyle Callahan and Bart all homered in the inning to push the Warrior lead to 19-3.

A Jacob Gribbin grand slam in the sixth increased the cushion to 23-3, and the game ended after seven innings due to the 10-run rule.

Bart and Darren Trainor each had three hits in the game, while Gribbin and Bart led the Warriors with four RBI each.

Callahan, Garvin, Needham, Gribbin and Bart all went deep in the game.

Hammergren earned his second win of the season after striking out eight. Matt Becker and Joe Riley both tossed an inning and struck out a pair.

The 23 runs against the Owls is the most LC has put up against Oregon Tech, passing the previous best of 20. 14 runs scored in the fifth is the most in one inning since 2008, as is the 10 hits in the inning.

The Warriors continue their series with the Owls tomorrow with a twin bill starting at noon.
