LEWISTON, Idaho – The Lewis-Clark State College athletic department has bolstered their staff with the addition of Melissa Weitz and Alex Slocum. Weitz will join the Athletic Operations team and Slocum will take over as the department's Facilities Director.

"We are very excited to add both Melissa Weitz and Alex Slocum to our team and having a full roster," athletic director Brooke Henze said. "Melissa comes with great energy and perspective and Alex has a background in communications so his crossover experience will be tremendously valuable."

Weitz, an Idaho native, recently completed her Master's degree in Sports Management from the University of Minnesota. Prior to living in Minneapolis, she lived on the Palouse for 19 years and has worked for the past two years at the University of Idaho as a Development Assistant.

"I'm excited to join a strong department under the leadership of athletic director Brooke Henze," Weitz said. "This is an incredible opportunity that I'm blessed to have."

After graduating from the University of Idaho with a BS in Psychology and BS in Child Development, she started a Children's Mental Health business. Melissa left that career path after the birth of her first child. She later served on the Latah County Vandal Booster for six years, three of which as the President. This volunteer experience guided her to a career in athletics.

Melissa enjoys spending time with her family, playing on the lake, fishing, golfing, camping, and snow skiing.

A native of Dallas, Pa., Slocum comes to the Valley from Boca Raton, Fla. where he served as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Lynn University since 2015. He was the primary contact for volleyball, men's basketball, men's and women's lacrosse and the men's & women's tennis programs.

"I am extremely excited to join the staff at Lewis-Clark and its long-standing tradition of success in the athletic department," Slocum said. "I'd like to thank athletic director Brooke Henze for giving me this opportunity and I look forward to becoming a Warrior."

Slocum spent two years as a graduate assistant in the sports information office at Kutztown University, promoting and covering its 21 NCAA Division II programs. While there, he coordinated game-day operations and administered statistics at home events, maintained the university's athletic website and its presence on multiple social media platforms while also constructing press releases, season previews and game recaps.

He completed his master's degree in business administration at Kutztown in December of 2014 and was an active member on the university's men's soccer club team.

Slocum acquired his start in college athletics as a sports information student assistant for three years at Shippensburg University, specializing in game-day activities and running statistical programs for volleyball, soccer, field hockey and lacrosse.

He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Shippensburg in 2013, majoring in marketing while minoring in coaching. In addition to his studies, Slocum aided as an assistant coach for the NCAA Division II women's tennis team, was a marketing intern for PepsiCo on campus and served in several executive roles over four years on the university's men's club soccer team.
