GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Lewis-Clark State College's men's and women's golf teams both finished second in their season-opening tournaments – the Argo Invitational. And both squads had a player finish third –
Carlos Davila and
Alexandra Schmidt.
For second-year coach
Kyla Lien, it was an opportunity to see her teams debut at a level higher than they finished in her first season.
"The teams played well," she said. "They were able to see where their strengths and their weaknesses are."
The men finished just one stroke behind champion Montana Tech with an 882 to the Orediggers' 881. Rocky Mountain was third at 883 followed by Carroll College at 922, Dickinson State at 964 and Montana State-Northern at 1063.
On the women's side, the Warriors' 650 was 14 strokes back of champion Rocky Mountain's 636. Montana Tech was third a 693 with Carroll College at 703 and Dickinson State at 725.
"We finished our rounds better today than we have in a long time," Lien said. "I know we still had some big numbers out there but there were fewer than there were (Monday)."
Davila finished at one-under par over the 6,571-yard, par-71 Eagle Falls Golf Club course. He matched 71s during Monday's 18 holes and finished with a one-under 70 Tuesday with an up-and-down round that featured five birdies and four bogeys.
