LEWISTON, Idaho – The No. 12 Lewis-Clark State Men's Basketball team stretched its home winning streak to 16 games with an 83-73 victory over the Montana State-Northern Lights in the Activity Center on Thursday. Led by 19 points from the sharp-shooting
Trystan Bradley, the Warriors hit 13 3-pointers with 56.5 percent accuracy. The Warriors committed just eight fouls in the contest.
"Credit to Northern. McCadney got hot late with three-straight 3s and that changes things, but before that I thought we did a great job defending the 3," coach
Austin Johnson said. "There is a ton of positives to take away. We did a pretty good job of defending without fouling.
"Our challenge is that we shoot it well and sometimes we want to live and die by the 3. Credit to our guys for finding a way to win. I'd rather learn a lesson when you win than when you lose."
A basket by
Josiah Westbrook got the scoring started 15 seconds in, and
Travis Yenor doubled the lead a minute later. Northern hit its first bucket at 18:21, but a 3 by Bradley kept the momentum going for LC State.
The Lights fought back to cut the Warrior advantage to two at 18-16 with 11:44 left in the half. A triple by Westbrook sparked a short seven-point rally the pushed the lead to 28-18 at 7:42. Bradley and
Jake Albright went back-to-back in the final minute to send LC State into halftime with a 43-30 cushion.
Westbrook opened the second half with a 3 to kick start the offense, and Bradley drained another a minute later to bring the lead to 49-32. LC State saw its largest lead of the game when Bradley nailed a 3-pointer midway through to put the Warriors up by 28 at 67-39.
MSUN did not go down easily, cutting the lead to single digits in the final minute. Three free throws by
Damek Mitchell sealed the deal for the Warriors in the 83-73 victory.
Bradley led LC State with 19 points including five 3s to tie a career-high. He was 5-for-7 from beyond the arc and 7-for-11 from the field. Westbrook added 16 points on four 3-pointers and Mitchell dropped 12 points.
Jake Albright was one point shy of tying a career-high with 11 points. Yenor totaled nine boards and eight points.
"There were some great performances," Johnson said. "Trystan and Josiah were really good and Damek had another all-around game. Jake showed that he could be a sixth starter, and Travis coming off a 37-point game still went out and grabbed nine rebounds and had three assists. There were a ton of positives. The great thing about basketball and life is that we are never going to be satisfied."
As a team, the Warriors shot 50.9 percent from the field, 56.5 percent from 3 and 63.6 percent from the line. They committed just eight fouls in the game and hit 13 3s all together.
MSUN's Mascio McCadney led all scorers with 21 points. Kavon Bey notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Warriors host No. 8 Providence on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Activity Center.
