GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Saturday was a statement night for Lewis-Clark State's 12
th-ranked men's basketball team as the Warriors dominated No. 8 Providence, 96-65, on the Argos' home court.
A career effort by junior
Trystan Bradley was the impetus behind the Warriors improving to 9-1 in the Frontier Conference and 21-1 overall. A 6-8 junior, his 25 points were a career best and he matched his top outings in 3-point goals (five) and field goals made (nine). His team-leading effort was complemented by
Jake Albright's second double-double (13 points, 12 rebounds) in the past three games.
Add to that, 17 points from
Travis Yenor, six assists from
Damek Mitchell and another five from
Josiah Westbrook, coupled with a defense that held Providence (18-4, 6-4) to its lowest point total of the season, and the Warriors' balance was too much for the Argos to handle.
"This was an extremely impressive performance by our guys," coach
Austin Johnson said. "First defensively to hold Providence to 65 points and secondly on offense to put 96 on the board.
"For the second night of a back-to-back our guys had tremendous energy and togetherness. This is an extremely difficult road trip and to come away with a sweep speaks volumes about who this group is and what they're about."
They established what they're about with 17:21 to go in the first half when Bradley hit a 3-pointer for a 9-7 LC lead. That was the start of a 30-10 run over the next 10 minutes that made it clear the Warriors were in firm control of the game and on their way to a 53-25 halftime lead.
They took that 28-point lead and stretched it to 34 points, 96-62, with just over one minute remaining to play. The closest the Argos would come in the second half was 22 points, 57-35, on a Jaxon Hashley field goal at the 15:56 mark.
Mitchell (11) and Westbrook (10) completed the list of double-figure Warrior scorers as all 10 players scored and all but one had at least one rebound. Collectively, they shot 48.5 percent (32 of 66) from the field and 42.1 percent (16 of 38) from 3-point range. They thoroughly controlled the boards, 43-28, and scored 23 points off 14 Providence turnovers.
LC held Providence to just 28.95 percent (11 of 38) from the field in the first half and 39.1 percent for the game. The Argos made just 14.3 percent from 3-point range.
The Warriors return to the Activity Center Friday and Saturday for key Frontier Conference matchups – Friday against No. 23 Carroll and Saturday against Montana Tech. Both games are at 7:30 p.m.
