LEWISTON, Idaho – With strong performances by the Warriors on the court and on the diamond, two Lewis-Clark State student-athletes brought home weekly awards on Monday. Jamie Nielson was voted the Frontier Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, and A.J. Davis was tabbed the Cascade Conference Baseball Player of the Week.
Nielson scored a career-high 35 points on Thursday against Providence, the most by any Warrior woman the season. Her total ranks 11th all-time in the LC State Women's Basketball record books. She followed up that stellar performance with a 21-point night in the win over MSU-Northern on Saturday. The Smithfield, Utah native shot .667 from the field (24-for-36) and was .500 from 3-point range (6-for-12).
The Warriors head to Butte, Mont. to take on Montana Tech on Thursday. LC State will celebrate Senior Night, with Nielson being the team's lone senior, on Saturday prior to the 5:30 p.m. contest against Carroll.
Davis helped the Warriors to a three-game sweep of NCAA DII Concordia (Ore.) by hitting .571 (8-for-14) in the series. The junior from Clarkston, Wash. went 4-for-5 with the game-winning RBI in game two, and knocked in three in the series finale. He had one double and scored a run. Davis leads the Warriors in batting average (.364) and hits (12) so far this season.
"A.J. had a great week offensively and in the field," coach Jake Taylor said. "He was consistent and competed at a high level."
Warrior Baseball hosts the 2020 home opener on Friday at 2 p.m. against British Columbia.
