COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – The Warriors returned to the win column with a commanding 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-11, 25-19) of the Walla Walla University Wolves on Tuesday. LC State used momentum-building runs to grow its leads and make quick work of its opponent in the Cascade Conference contest.
15 different Warriors saw action in the match, giving the underclassmen valuable time on the court.
"Glad we were able to come in and take care of business in three," Head Coach
Shaun Pohlman said. "Really happy we were able to get a lot of people into the rotation."
Kenzie Dean, who rattled off 22 straight serves without an error in the previous meeting, put the Warriors in front with an ace at 2-1. Kills by
Carli Berntson,
Channa Hart and
Cassidy Nelson, as well as another ace by Dean, helped grow the run to nine straight.
Dean served eight straight times during the first rotation, and, when combined with the 22 from the previous match, gave LC 30 points in a row against Walla Walla during her time at the service line.
The Warriors continued to carry the momentum with back-to-back kills by Nelson and Hallie Season on assists from
Jess Ruffing. Four aces by Nelson and a kill by
Grecia Ung Enriquez fueled an eight-point rally to push the advantage to 18-4, and back-to-back kills by Hart and Seaman ended a 3-0 run by the Wolves at 24-14. Hart made it three LC kills in a row to end the set.
Ung Enriquez slammed a kill off the WWU block to spark the LC State offense in the second frame.
Katie Rainville added a kill before teaming up with Seaman on a block to begin the set on a 3-0 run. Four kills and a block by
Jada Wyms aided a seven-point stretch to make it an 11-3 lead, and a pair of kills by Berntson on assists from
Lexi Trowbridge grew the advantage to 13-5.
Rainville and Seaman teamed up on a block to give the Warriors a 16-6 cushion and force a Walla Walla timeout. After a string of errors by both teams, LC closed out the set with an ace by Trowbridge and kills by Wyms and Berntson.
Seaman sparked a run of five that featured kills by Ung Enrique and Rainville, as well as an ace by Trowbridge, that gave LC a 7-2 advantage in the third set. The Wolves battled back, though, to even the game 13-13. Rainville used assists from
Hannah Martinez and Trowbridge to put the Warriors back in front with back-to-back kills before another ace by Trowbridge pushed the lead out to 16-13. Ung Enriquez added to the seven-point run with a kill to give LC a 20-13 lead, and an ace by
Josie Peters widened the gap to 22-14 to cap the 9-1 scoring stretch. A kill by
Kierstyn York on as assist from
Ashlee Bachman ended things at 25-19.
Ung Enriquez led the Warriors with nine kills. Rainville added five with a .625 attack percentage, while Wyms and Bernston tallied six and five, respectively, with matching attack percentages of .556. Martinez dealt 15 assists and Trowbridge added 13. Dean led the defense with 14 digs and
