MOSCOW, Idaho – A strong defensive game and the 3-ball held the Lewis-Clark State Women's Basketball team at bay on Tuesday night in Idaho's new Idaho Central Credit Union Arena. The NCAA Division I Idaho Vandals took control of the exhibition early and finished off LC State by a final of 95-46.
It took nearly three minutes before Idaho drew the first points of the game on a 3-pointer to take an early lead.
Callie Stevens put LC on the board with a layup at 7:27 in the opening quarter.
Maddie Holm and
Heidi Sellmann added to the Warrior total with jumpers to keep LC within five at 11-6 by the 4:14 mark, but by the end of the first 10 minutes Idaho led 19-8.
The Vandals kept their foot on the gas in the second quarter and outscored LC State 34-12.
Sara Muehlhausen and
Rachel Schroeder went back-to-back at the free throw line for four straight LC points, and
Hannah Broyles drained a 3 with 41 seconds left in the half, but the Vandals took a 53-20 lead into the locker room.
The Idaho dominance continued in the second half and carried the momentum to a 95-46 final.
Stevens led the Warriors with 11 points and Muehlhausen had 10. Muehlhausen, Holm, Stevens and Sellmann each grabbed six boards.
The Warriors host the Twin Rivers Physical Therapy Classic on Friday and Saturday in the Activity Center. LC State will open the weekend against Montana Tech before turning around to face Rocky Mountain. Both games are slated for 5 p.m. Tickets and streaming packages are available at lcwarriors.com.
