CORVALLIS, Ore. - Another successful week of Warrior athletics brought two more Cascade Conference Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Athletes of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday.
Leon Menten was voted the Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, and
Tallon Thomason was named Pitcher of the Week for the Cascade Conference.
Â
Menten and the LC State Track and Field crew participated at the Whitworth Essential over weekend. The freshman competed in the javelin throw at the meet and found success in his collegiate debut. Menten beat out competitors from NCAA DI programs such as Idaho and Eastern Washington to win the event. He consistently hit 60-plus meters in his attempts and topped out at the 63.36m mark. This score beat the second-place opponent by a little more than four-meters and shattered the program record, previously held by assistant coach
Jacob Whittaker.
Â
The Warriors continue their season at the Whitworth Invitational on March 25 and 26.
Â
The ninth-ranked LC State Baseball team continued its dominance this week by extending its win-streak to nine games with a four-game sweep of the College of Idaho. In the first game of the series, Thomason got the start on the bump and pitched a solid five innings. He gave up just one run on three hits. Thomason also struck out five Yotes hitters in his fourth victory. The Warriors gave Thomason some run support with a final score of 21-2.
Â
LC State returns to Harris Field this weekend to host Eastern Oregon in a pair of doubleheaders. Games one and two are scheduled for Saturday starting at noon.
