PORTLAND, Ore. – The road woes continued for LC State Men's Basketball as the Warriors dropped a contest to Warner Pacific University by a final of 75-63 on Saturday night. The loss moves LC's conference record to 8-7.
"We are struggling to score and have offensive rhythm, but I'm hopeful we can build off some of the positives in the second half," Head Coach
Austin Johnson said. "There's still plenty of season left and this group will keep working to try to reach their full potential."
Oreon Courtney answered an opening basket by WPU, with both teams scoring in their first possessions. Back-to-back 3s put the Knights ahead 8-2 before Courtney added another layup, but another surge by WPU made it a 14-4 difference four minutes in.
Al Sommerfield and Courtney kept the Warriors in the game, but another run by the Knights pushed the margin to 12, 22-10, at 12:57. WPU continued to hold a double-digit lead over LC throughout the half, matching seemingly every shot the Warriors made. By the half, Warner Pacific led 37-26.
The Warriors attempted to chip away at the WPU lead in the second half with a run of six with points from
Nathan Fromm,
Khalil Stevenson and Sommerfield. A pair of 3s by Sommerfield brought LC within seven, 47-40, at 14:38, but fouls by the Warriors kept the ball with the Knights.
Warner Pacific ran away with the contest by a final of 75-63.
Fromm led the Warriors with 19 points in the contest. Sommerfield added 16 and Courtney had 10. Courtney grabbed eight rebounds and Sommerfield had seven.
LC State returns home to face No. 10 College of Idaho in the P1FCU Activity Center on Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
