LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State Men's Basketball's Al Sommerfield was voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday. Sommerfield is the fourth in program history to earn the honor, and third in the last two seasons.

"Very proud of Al and grateful for his work and discipline to be recognized publicly," Head Coach Austin Johnson said. "In his short time here, he has been a great teammate and an integral part of us maintaining a winning tradition. Al is another great example of the quality, high-character student-athletes we are fortunate to attract here at LC."

A graduate-transfer from NCAA Division II Alaska-Fairbanks, Sommerfield is working towards a graduate degree in Sport Coaching. The Federal Way, Wash., native holds a 3.89 GPA and also interns in the department's Sports Information office.

Sommerfield leads the Warriors with 24 starts and has started every game he has appeared in. The forward averages 9.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game with a .426 shooting percentage. He is second on the team in 3-pointers made (44) and is shooting .358 from beyond the arc heading into the final weekend of the regular season. Sommerfield is 16-for-20 (.800) from the free throw line this season and has blocked 10 shots.

The Warriors host Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech in the P1FCU Activity Center this weekend, and have clinched a spot in the Cascade Conference postseason tournament. LC State will celebrate its seniors, including Sommerfield, prior to the start of Saturday's contest.

Former Warriors Trystan Bradley and Hodges Bailey were voted to the team last season, with Bailey going on to earn Academic All-American honors. Brain Meneely was voted Academic All-District in 2002.

To be nominated for CoSIDA Academic All-District, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.5 grade point average and be a starter or key reserve. Student-Athletes voted First-Team Academic All-District move on to the Academic All-America ballot.

LC State falls under District 4 which includes schools from Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Canada. There are seven members of the team that all advance to the All-America ballot.
