LEWISTON, Idaho – The No. 4 LC State Baseball team wrapped up a series sweep of NCAA Division II Central Washington with a 9-4 victory on Sunday. The Warriors had six different pitchers see action in the contest to give more members of the bullpen staff time on the mound.
"Always nice to win four in a weekend," Head Coach
Jake Taylor said. "Great to utilize our entire staff throughout the series. We saw a lot of good things, and also areas that need addressed for improvement as we move forward into the week of practice."
The Warriors scored the first runs of the game with a seven spot in the second.
Luke White reached on an error before
Zach Threlfall singled to put two on. A single by
Nick Seamons loaded the bases, and a run scored on a hit by
Justin Mazzone.
Coy Stout ripped a ball up the middle to plate two and
A.J. Davis knocked in a run on a fielder's choice. Nagle drove in two more with a hit as LC batted around, and Threlfall capped the inning with an RBI-single.
Bryson Spagnuolo continued his strong outing into the top of the third to keep CWU off the board, but the Wildcats tallied their first run in the fourth.
LC State got the run back in the bottom of the inning.
Sam Linscott walked and stole second before taking third on a wild pitch. A single by Threlfall made it 8-1.
After a scoreless inning by
Alec Holmes in the fifth,
Dale Takalo took over on the mound for his first action in 2022 in the sixth.
Jantzen Lucas was given the ball in the seventh and struck out the side.
The Warriors fought through high winds to tack on a run in the seventh.
Dominic Signorelli walked and took second in a hit by
Riley Way. Nagle drove in Signorelli to make it 9-2.
Harrison Grow struck out two in the eighth and allowed one run.
Eli Shubert came on in relief in the top of the ninth and gave up a run before closing out the contest.
Threlfall led the offense with three hits, while Nagle, Seamons and Stout each had two. Nagle drove in three runs, and Threlfall and Stout each knocked in two. On the mound, Spagnuolo went four innings and struck out three. Holmes, Takalo, Lucas, Grow and Shubert each went an inning in relief.
The Warriors host Eastern Oregon next weekend in a non-conference series starting on Saturday.
