Stellar Starts on the Mound Help LC to Series Sweep

LEWISTON, Idaho Drake Borschowa and Greg Blackman both gave the Warriors quality starts on the mound to get the momentum going for No. 4 LC State on Monday. LC totaled 16 runs to complete the sweep of Eastern Oregon University.

With the victories, the Warriors are now 19-1 on the season and boast a 13-game winning streak. The series with EOU does not count towards the Cascade Conference record.

"Drake and GT (Blackman) pounded the zone and worked quickly to get us back in the dugout," Head Coach Jake Taylor said. "Offensively we were able to use the entire field for the majority of both games. Overall, it was a good weekend and we will get right back after it this coming week."

GAME ONE: LC State def. Eastern Oregon 8-0
Riley Way was hit by the first pitch LC saw, then raced around to third on an errant throw by the catcher. A sacrifice fly by A.J. Davis brought in the game's first run, and Aidan Nagle walked to keep things going. An error put Sam Linscott on before Luke White loaded the bases with a knock to right. Nick Seamons brought in two with a single to cap the inning.

After striking out a pair in the first inning, Borschowa fanned two more in the second. Way tripled to right and scored on a Davis groundout to make it 4-0.

Borschowa struck out the side in order in the third to keep EOU off the board, and the LC offense put up two in the home half of the inning. White, Seamons and Zach Threlfall tallied three straight singles to bring in a pair and push the advantage to 6-0.

Two more punchouts for Borschowa ended his day after five innings, bringing his strikeout total to nine.

Justin Mazzone doubled and Pu'ukani De Sa wore a pitch off the arm before a single by Way loaded the bases. A wild pitch brought in Mazzone. A double steal by Coy Stout and Linscott made it 8-0 in the sixth.

Cameron Smith and Harrison Grow each allowed only two hits in their innings of relief to close out the game. LC pitching combined for 12 strikeouts, led by Borschowa's nine, in the shutout.

Way and White each tallied three hits to lead the Warriors, while Davis, Seamons and Threlfall each drove in two runs. Linscott swiped two bags and Stout stole one.

GAME TWO: LC State def. Eastern Oregon 8-1
Blackman struck out the first batter he faced in the second game of the day. He stuck out another in the second before picking off a runner trying to steal third.

Linscott put the Warriors in front in the third with an RBI-double down the left field line. EOU responded in the next half inning to tie the game, but LC regained the advantage in the fifth. Stout walked before back-to-back bunt singles but Way and Davis loaded the bases. Linscott drove in two with a flared single to right center before stealing second.

The runs kept coming, thanks in part to a wind-driven double by White to make it 3-0. Seamons brought in two on a single to left, and Matt James tallied an RBI-double.

Dawson Day struck out two in the sixth and one in the seventh, and Seamons scored on a wild pitch in the LC half of the seventh to make it 8-1. Eli Shubert gave the Warriors a 1-2-3 inning in the eighth.

The Warriors called on Bryson Spagnuolo to close out the contest and the righty struck out the side.

LC State pitching totaled 13 punchouts in game two, bringing the total to 25 on the day. Blackman fanned six in his five innings, Day and Spagnuolo each struck out three and Shubert had one strikeout. Only one batter was walked and the run that scored was unearned.

Linscott and James led the offense with three hits each and Linscott drove in three. He added another stolen base for three on the day.

LC State will host Corban University this weekend in a non-conference series. The four-game set is scheduled to start on Saturday, March 5, at noon.
