SPOKANE, Wash. – The winning streak improved to six straight for LC State Men's Tennis on Saturday with a 6-1 victory over NCAA Division III Whitworth. The Warriors are now 7-0 against DIII competition this season.
LC and Whitworth combined the NAIA and NCAA DIII scoring systems to start the day, with the doubles portion counting for one point (NAIA rule), but each match going to eight instead of six (DIII rule). The Warriors swept doubles, with the top doubles pairing of
Itaru Kikuchi and
William Bruchard, as well as the No. 2 doubles team of
Austin Swing and
Daniel Tevez, winning 8-3.
Andy Wu and
Matus Rusnak won third doubles 8-2.
Kikuchi worked quickly in the top singles spot with a 6-1, 6-0 win. Bruchard (No. 2 singles), Swing (No. 3 singles) and Tevez (No. 6 singles) all swept their matches in straight sets.
Cade Edwards battled in the fourth singles spot for a three-set victory, as did Rusnak in No. 5 singles action.
The Warriors will travel to Indiana at the end of the month for matchups with NAIA teams. The schedule for those matches will be available next week.
