LEWISTON, Idaho – The 2022 LC State Baseball accomplished a feat that only one other Warrior team has done before. With a 14-4 victory over the University of British Columbia on Sunday, the No. 3 Warriors tied the 1986 team with 27 straight victories. LC is now 33-1 on the season and 4-0 in Cascade Conference play.
"Overall, we had a very good weekend in multiple facets of the game," Head Coach
Jake Taylor said. "We took a step forward offensively this weekend to open up conference play."
The Warriors jumped in front in the first inning with a pair of two-out runs.
Aidan Nagle,
Sam Linscott and
Luke White notched three straight singles, with White's plating two.
Starter
Bryson Spagnuolo added his third strikeout of the game in the third as part of a double play with a runner thrown out on the bases.
Riley Way singled to center to start the home half of the inning, and a double by Nagle made it a 3-0 game.
Dominic Signorelli added to the Warrior advantage in the fourth with an RBI-double off the wall in right center to bring in
Charlie Updegrave.
Defensive miscues cost LC in the fifth. UBC struck for three in the fifth before
Alec Holmes took over and forced a 1-2-3 double play to end the threat.
LC bounced back in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a two-run double off the bat of
Justin Mazzone. The Thunderbirds scored once in the sixth to make it a two-run game.
The Warriors bats came alive to put up a seven-spot in the sixth. Signorelli led the frame off with a walk and
A.J. Davis singled to put two on. Back-to-back doubles by Nagle and Linscott brought in three and walks to White and Mazzone loaded the bases.
Matt James doubled off the wall in center to bring two around before courtesy runner
Joe Canty scored on a passed ball. An RBI-groundout by Updegrave made it 13-4.
Reliever
Eli Shubert fanned two in the eighth to hold UBC off the board, and a sacrifice fly by White brought in Linscott to send the game into the ninth with LC ahead 14-4.
Trevin Hope took over in the ninth and sat down the Thunderbirds down in order.
Linscott led LC with four hits in the game, while Nagle and Mazzone each had three. Nagle and White each drove in three runs.
On the mound, Spagnuolo tossed 4.2 innings with four strikeouts.
Alec Holmes threw 1.2, Shubert went two to earn the win, and Hope threw the final frame.
LC State hits the road to take on Corban in a Cascade Conference series starting on Friday in Salem.
