Warrior Weekly Preview - March 7-13

LEWISTON, Idaho – Tournament time has arrived for LC State basketball as both teams travel to their 2022 NAIA Basketball National Championship Opening Rounds this weekend. Baseball is on the road taking on College of Idaho, and men’s tennis takes on NCAA Division III Pacific Lutheran on the road before hosting Puget Sound on Sunday.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

The Warrior men will play in Helena, Mont. in the Opening Round hosted by Carroll College. LC opens the tournament as the No. 11 seed and will take on third-seeded Jamestown (N.D.) for the first time in program history. The contest is slated for 4:30 p.m. PT on Friday.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The Warrior women will be in Plainview, Texas at the pod hosted by Wayland Baptist. LC is the No. 6 seed in the tournament and will face 11th-seeded MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) at 6 p.m. PT on Friday. This is the first meeting between the two programs.

BASEBALL

Fourth-ranked LC State Baseball is in Caldwell this weekend for a four-game non-conference set with the College of Idaho Yotes. The Warriors swept C of I last season with the largest margin of victory being 21-2 in the first meeting of the year. 

The Warriors are off to the best start in program history with a record of 23-1. LC has won 17 straight since returning home from the trip to Arizona. This weekend will be the Warriors’ first games on the road since the season-opening swing. 

Matt James had the hot bat for LC over the weekend with three home runs. In Sunday’s pair of wins, the senior’s big flies were both game-winners. Warrior pitching combined for 42 strikeouts in 34 innings and allowed just four earned runs.

MEN'S TENNIS

LC Men’s Tennis is riding a three-match winning streak heading into a pair of contests this weekend. The Warriors will travel to Walla Walla to take on NCAA Division III Pacific Lutheran in a neutral-court contest, then host DIII Puget Sound in the Tennis Center on Sunday. 

The Warriors are 4-0 against DIII competition this season, including two sweeps of Whitworth. The most recent victory for LC was a 6-1 win over visiting Whitman on Feb. 26. Daniel Tevez was the lone Warrior to earn wins in both singles and doubles against the Blues.
