LEWISTON, Idaho –
Dawson Day was superb in his seven innings against the College of Idaho on Saturday, striking out 13 without allowing a run. RBI from
Riley Way and
Coy Stout gave the No. 4 LC State Baseball all of the necessary offense in the 2-0 shutout win over the Yotes. The Warriors earned their 40
th victory of the season (40-4) and are 11-3 in Cascade Conference play.
"Dawson was excellent on the mound for us as we struggled to find rhythm offensively," Head Coach
Jake Taylor said. "We will have to be ready to go tomorrow as C of I will be here to compete."
Charlie Updegrave represented the first run of the game after notching LC's first hit, a double, in the third. The Warriors manufactured the run with a flyout by Stout to move him to third before a sacrifice fly by Way brought him in.
Day continued his strong outing and finished his day with seven scoreless innings.
A.J. Davis became the 12
th member the LC's 200-Hit Club with a leadoff double in the seventh. A base hit up the middle by Stout brought Davis around to push the advantage to 2-0.
The ball was handed to
Drake Borschowa in the eighth and the freshman started his outing with two strikeouts. He worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to close out the game and earn the save.
Day fanned an impressive 13 in his seven innings and did not give up a run. He allowed just two hits and one walk. Day had four 1-2-3 innings, including striking out the side in the second, en route to his sixth win of the season. Borschowa earned his first save after striking out three in two innings to complete the shutout.
Stout and Davis each had two hits in the contest, making up four of LC's seven hits.
The Warriors wrap up the series with C of I on Sunday at 11 a.m.
