LEWISTON, Idaho – The fourth-ranked LC State Baseball team wrapped its Cascade Conference series against the College of Idaho Yotes with a 9-6 victory on Sunday. Senior
Zach Threlfall was 4-for-4 in the contest with three RBI, and both
Pu'ukani De Sa and
A.J. Davis homered in the win.
With the victory, LC State is 41-4 on the season and lead the Cascade at 12-3. The Yotes fall to 12-8 in conference play and sit second in the CCC.
Warrior pitching struggled through the first three innings, allowing a run in each frame.
Joe Ball came out of the bullpen with the bases loaded in the second and worked LC out of a jam in the heart of the C of I lineup.
LC tallied its first run of the game in the third when
Riley Way scored on an RBI-double off the bat of
Aidan Nagle. The Warriors evened the score in the fourth, fueled by three straight singles by
Justin Mazzone, Threlfall and
Matt James. A wild pitch brought in Threlfall to tie the score 3-3.
Mazzone came up with another clutch hit in the fifth to put LC State in front.
Luke White singled before scoring on the double by Mazzone, who then took the extra base on an error by C of I. A knock through the left side by Threlfall made it 5-3.
Ball worked around a one-out double in the top of the sixth to keep the Warriors in the lead.
The advantage grew to 6-3 in the sixth with a solo shot by Davis, his first of the season. Nagle kept the inning going with a base hit up the middle before White and Mazzone drew back-to-back walks. Threlfall doubled to drive in one and end the inning with the Warriors ahead 8-3.
De Sa went yard for the second time in the series with a solo shot in the seventh, and a strikeout by
Eli Shubert ended the top of the eighth.
C of I tallied three in the ninth, but the insurance runs kept the Warriors in front for the 9-6 win.
Threlfall led all hitters in the contest with four hits and three runs driven in. Nagle tallied three hits and Mazzone notched two.
Ball earned the win on the mound after tossing 4.1 innings with one run allowed. He struck out three and did not walk a batter. Shubert did not give up a run in his two innings.
"
Joe Ball came into a tough spot out of the pen and worked us out of it," Head Coach
Jake Taylor said. "Offensively, we hit the ball hard throughout the lineup. It was a good finish to the weekend."
The Warriors travel to Klamath Falls next weekend to take on Oregon Tech in a four-game Cascade Conference series.
