MEN'S RESULTS | WOMEN'S RESULTS

GLENEDEN BEACH, Ore. –
Saving the best for last, Devon Caruso and the No. 15 Lewis-Clark State College Men's Golf team put together solid final-round scores to help the Warrior men and women sweep titles at the season-opening Coastal Collegiate Classic on Tuesday.

Playing on the par-70 Salishan Golf Links course, Caruso shot a 1-under-par 69 during the third and final round of the tournament. His score was not only the lowest of the day but the lowest in the tournament, which helped him tie Cade Stubbs of Bushnell for top honors at 220 in the 54-hole event. A scorecard playoff was then used to determine the overall winner, which Caruso won.

Caruso's play, along with Elias Theodossopoulos' final round of 72, helped the Warriors to a 295 team score in the final round. LC State, which shot 307s in both the first two rounds, ended up running away with the title with a three-day 909 score. The Warriors bested second-place Oregon Tech by 45 strokes.

On the women's side, LC State fired a final round of 332 to hold off Oregon Tech for the title by three shots. Oregon Tech shot a final round of 331. OIT is ranked No. 23 in the NAIA preseason poll while the Warriors were unranked.

"What a great way to start the season with team wins on both the men's and women's sides," LC State coach Zach Anderson said. "The women beat a nationally ranked team. I'm proud of how the team battled and grinded through adversity this week."

Caruso had six birdies in the tournament, which tied for the top spot, but he saved the best for last with four birdies during the final round. He got to 2-under-par twice during the round before finishing with three pars and the 69. Theodossopoulos, who had LC's highest scores during the first two rounds with an 87 and 88, put a masterful round together as well. He finished with one bogey and eight pars on the front, and then after a bogey and double bogey put him at 4-over, he played the final six holes at 2-under-par.

"Devon shot the only under par round of the tournament to move from third to tied for first and won in a scorecard playoff earning his second career win," Anderson said. "Eli buckled down and shot 72 after some tough rounds the first two days to help the team shoot its first sub 300 round of the year."

Alexandra Schmidt was the Warriors' top finisher on the women's side as she took second with a 243 score. Deana Caruso and Kylee Hughes each had 247s to tie for fourth. Deana Caruso had the Warriors' best round of the day with an 81.

The Warriors resume play next Monday in the two-day College of Idaho Invitational, which will serve as one of three regular-season Cascade Collegiate Conference tournaments. The men will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday, while the women will play 18 both days.

"We definitely have room for improvement and we are excited to kick off conference play next week in Caldwell," Anderson said.
