Warrior Weekly Preview - Sept. 25-Oct. 1

GOLF

Warrior Golf is set to compete at the Corban Invitational Monday and Tuesday, as long as the weather cooperates. The region saw heavy rain over the weekend but as of Monday morning the course was playable. The men are scheduled to play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday, while the women are slated for 18 each day.

“Weather will be a struggle this week, but we can’t control that,” Head Coach Zach Anderson said. “We can only control our mindset and game. Excited for another chance for experience and success.”

The Warrior women finished third behind No. 1 UBC and Oregon Tech at the OIT Invitational with Kyla Currie and Deana Caruso in the top 10. The men were fourth in the strong Cascade Conference. The Corban Invitational is a conference-counting match, similar to OIT, and factors into the end-of-season scoring in the spring.

Live scoring will not be available.

VOLLEYBALL

The Warriors faced a tough road slate over the weekend with three-set losses to both College of Idaho and No. 1 Eastern Oregon. LC State will look to bounce back with a match at Walla Walla on Wednesday before hosting Warner Pacific and Multnomah in the P1FCU Activity Center this weekend.

“We have a big week ahead of ourselves playing three matches in four days,” Head Coach Katie Palmer said. “The Wolves have a program that is continuing to improve and we’re focusing on winning the serve and pass battle with them in order to accomplish our goals. It will be a good test for our team after coming off our most recent road trip where we’ve identified that we’re improving as a team regardless of the outcome.”

LC State is 11-0 against the Wolves dating back to 2010 and took the early meeting with them this season in straight sets. Juliauna Forgach Aguilar tallied 12 kills in her breakout contest. WWU is the lone CCC team without a win this season at 0-9 in conference play and 0-10 overall. LC enters the weekend eighth in the Cascade at 2-7 in CCC play and 3-11 overall.

The weekend features a pair of matches against the two teams tied for 10th in the CCC. Warner Pacific comes to town on Friday in a match sponsored by Inland Cellular. LC is 9-0 against WPU dating back to 2010, and the Knights are 1-8 in conference play this year. Friday is Heroes night in the P1FCU Activity Center. The Warriors are giving free tickets to all front-line/first responders that use the code HERO at checkout online. It is also Warrior Blue Night and fans are encouraged to wear navy blue LC State gear.

Multnomah visits the Valley on Saturday. LC is 7-0 against the Lions dating back to 2018, and Multnomah is currently tied with WPU in the CCC standings with a 1-8 conference record. Saturday’s match is sponsored by Rogers Motors and it is also Elementary School Night. LC Athletics will supply free tickets for local elementary school kids and families. Elementary school visitors will receive a slice of Southway Pizza. There will be discounted concessions and poster signing after the match.

“I know the team is excited to be back in the P1FCU Activity Center this weekend,” Palmer added. “We feed off our home crowd and will need that energy for two tough opponents.”

CROSS COUNTRY

LC State Cross Country will compete in two separate meets on Saturday with a group headed to Kentucky and another going to Walla Walla. The Warriors will take part in the competitive Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky., while the rest of the teams will race at the Whitman Invitational. The Warrior women are ranked No. 12 heading into the weekend and the men at No. 17.

“Big week for the teams as one squad heads back to Louisville for what will be the largest race of the season outside of nationals,” Head Coach Mike Collins said. “We expect 10-15 ranked schools in each race, so our performance there will likely have a big impact on the rankings and subsequently our standing at the end of the year for at-large berths for nationals. The course in Louisville is a former site of nationals, although a slightly adjusted course, so we have some prior knowledge of the terrain. We should be ready to go. The other part of our squad will be at Whitman’s invite, which should have a couple of conference teams, so a chance to get a gauge of where we stand in the conference. Should be some exciting racing this week.”

The Warriors had a strong showing at the WSU Invitational with the top non-NCAA Division I finishers on each side. Brooklyn Shell led the way for the women with a 14th-place mark to help the team place fourth. Carter Gordon ran the fastest average mile time in the conference to take 15th and help the men place fifth.

Live results will be available for both races
