Busy Weekend Results in Four CCC Athletes of the Week

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Winter sports are in full swing for LC State and it was evident over the weekend with Warrior basketball and track and field teams in action. LC State had standout performances across the board and was rewarded with four Cascade Conference Rize Laboratory Athlete of the Week honors. Madigan Kelly, Trenton Johnson and Sydnie Zywina earned accolades in track and field, and Callie Stevens earned the 10th women’s basketball weekly honor of her career.

CALLIE STEVENS – WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Stevens had a monster weekend anchored by a career-high 38 points against Warner Pacific. The total is tied for fourth-most in a single game at LC State and her seven 3-pointers is tied for third. The senior averaged 26 points per game with 14 points against Multnomah. She drained 10 3-pointers on the weekend with a 47.6 percentage from 3-point range and shot 61.3% from the field. Stevens dealt eight assists and had four steals.

This is the 10th weekly honor of Steven’s career, third this season and second in a row.

MADIGAN KELLY – WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Kelly continues to get faster, and it was evident on Saturday. The Lewiston native clocked a time of 8.49 in the 60m hurdles, the third-fastest time in the NAIA this season. She ran a time of 8.57 in the prelims before crossing the line as the top collegiate finisher at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open. The time bettered her A standard and LC State record.

This is the seventh weekly honor of Kelly’s career and first this season.

SYDNIE ZYWINA – WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Zywina dominated jumping events this weekend at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open in Moscow. The Orofino native set the Warrior record in her first attempt at the long jump with a B standard mark of 5.52m. She then tied her school record in the triple jump at 11.64m which ranks sixth in the NAIA this season.

This is the second weekly honor of Zywina’s career and first this season.

TRENTON JOHNSON – MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Johnson set the LC State record once again the triple jump. He hit his first national-qualifying standard with a provisional mark of 14.23m. The distance ranks 15th in the NAIA this season.

This is the first weekly honor of Johnson’s career.

LC State Women’s Basketball is in the Seattle area this weekend with contests against Evergreen State and Northwest. Warrior Track and Field is in Spokane for the Inland Northwest Invitational.
