WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The No. 7 Warrior women (15-2, 11-1) cruised through the weekend in Portland with a 95-73 win over Warner Pacific and 97-66 victory over Multnomah. Callie Stevens and Ellie Sander combined for 65 points against WPU for the most points by a duo in program history. Stevens tallied a career-high 38 points against WPU to pair with Sander’s 27. Freshman Tatum Brager stepped up with a career-best 21 points against Multnomah. The Warriors wrap up the road swing this weekend at Evergreen State (4-9, 4-7) and Northwest (3-14, 3-8).
“Our team is looking forward to the second half of our conference season,” Head Coach Caelyn Orlandi said. “We haven’t seen Northwest and Evergreen since the first of December and we will face two improved teams. I am very impressed with our team’s relentless work ethic and love for sharing the basketball. We continue to improve every game and every practice.”
LC State is 6-0 against TESC dating back to 2006 and won the matchup in December 74-45. Sander scored 20 points to lead the Warriors in the contest and Sitara Byrd had six steals. Jalyn Sackrider and Abby Mundy each scored eight points for Evergreen. The Geoducks’ Jenna Glenzel leads the conference in steals per game (3.0) and Sackrider is second in blocked shots per game (1.9).
The Warriors are 8-3 against Northwest since 2003 and edged the Eagles 79-73 in November. Sander and Maddie Holm each scored 15 points, while Byrd and Stevens each added 13. Northwest’s Maya DuChesne led the contest with 26 points and is second in the CCC in minutes played per game (36.7).
The Warriors lead the Cascade Conference in scoring (76.9), field goal percentage (.462), 3-point field goal percentage (.346), assists per game (18.6), steals per game (11.6), turnover margin (3.82) and assist/turnover ratio (1.4). Sander leads the CCC in assists per game (3.9) and 3-point field goal percentage (.417) and is second in field goal percentage (.531). Stevens is second in 3-pointers made per game (2.9) and third in 3-point percentage (.403). Freshman Darian Herring is second in the CCC in blocked shots (30).
