TRACK & FIELD
LC State will compete at the Whitworth Invitational with 14 student-athletes already qualified for nationals.
Emily Collins (400m), the women’s 4x400m relay, Sydnie Zywina (long jump), London Kirk (600m), Carter Gordon (600m and mile) and Trenton Johnson (triple jump) all have earned a B standard in their events, while Geraldin Correa (800m), Madigan Kelly (60m hurdles), the women’s 4x800m relay, Jennah Carpenter (high jump) and Zywina (triple jump) all reached an A standard.
Carpenter is ranked seventh in the women's pentathlon with a score of 3,296, and Christian Bothwell ranks 12th in the heptathlon (4,663).
“Looking forward to this week. A week of training without competition should be helpful, plus we have had a lot of illness go through the team, so probably a good time for time off,” Head Coach Mike Collins said. “Right now we have 14 national qualifiers, so the goal would be to add to that this week. We think we have a shot at another relay, maybe two and still some individuals that have legitimate chances to hit qualifying marks. Kind of ironic in that we are in this position, yet we have been without a track for a few weeks, due to flooding at Vollmer, but that really resonates with the toughness of these athletes and their willingness to take on any challenge.”
The Warriors kick off the two-day event on Friday at The Podium in Spokane.
