GAME ONE: No. 5 LC State def. Oregon Tech 10-2
CCC Player of the Year Tyler Horner put OIT on top early with a two-out solo shot in the top of the first, but a pair of strikeouts by Spencer left an Owl stranded at third in the second frame.
Spencer worked out of a jam in the top of the fourth to keep the score within one. OIT had runners on second and third with two outs before a strikeout ended the threat.
LC State tied the score in the bottom of the fourth.
Jake Gish and
Brandon Cabrera tallied back-to-back singles and both advanced to scoring position on a wild pitch. An RBI groundout by
Pu'ukani De Sa plated the first Warrior run of the contest. A flared single by
Jakob Marquez into left put LC on top 2-1.
Ike George took over on the bases for Marquez and
Magnum Hofstetter walked before both scored on a double by
Carter Booth. LC State led 4-1 through four innings.
Marquez took a runner off the bases when he caught a runner trying to take third and Spencer sat a batter down looking to end the top of the fifth.
The Warriors added on in the home half of the fifth after hits by
Dominic Signorelli and Gish got the offense going.
Charlie Updegrave drove in one, and Marquez was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Hofstetter walked and Booth wore a pitch to bring in two runs and push the advantage to 7-1.
A 1-2-3 top of the sixth was aided by a strikeout by Spencer and LC State continued its scoring ways in the bottom of the frame. Signorelli tripled to lead off the sixth and a sacrifice fly by Gish pushed the run across. Back-to-back hits by Updegrave and De Sa kept the momentum going, with De Sa driving in a run, and De Sa scored with smart baserunning for a 10-1 advantage.
Stellar defense helped Spencer through a 1-2-3 top of the eighth and the starter finished out the contest despite a run in the ninth. He struck out eight batters in nine frames and walked only one.
Updegrave tallied three hits and Booth drove in three runs. LC State totaled 14 hits with two each from Booth,
Nick Seamons and Gish.
