KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lewis-Clark State College Athletics was named an NAIA Champions of Character Five-Star Award Winner at the Gold level by the national office on Wednesday. LC State was one of 209 schools to earns the honor and one of 131 that earned Gold status.
The Warriors earned all 100 points on the Champions of Character scoresheet. The 13 LC State teams totaled more than 1,600 hours of community service work throughout the school year and finished the 2023-24 campaign with a department grade point average of 3.36. LC State Golf coach Zach Anderson serves as the department's Champions of Character liaison and is responsible for compiling the Champions of Character report for the NAIA.
"As the Champions of Character liaison, and also part of the coaching staff, it is great to see how important integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership is to our teams and department as a whole," Anderson said. "There has been a culture created here that promotes each of these values to all admin, staff and student-athletes. No matter the outcome, character is always at the forefront. I am proud of our department being named a Five-Star Gold Champions of Character institution."
Institutions are measured on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earn points in character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion. Institutions earned points based on exceptional student-athlete grade point averages and by having minimal to no ejections during competition throughout the course of the academic year. The Cascade Conference was named a Champions of Character Five-Star Conference with more than 60% of schools receive the award.
