Warrior Weekly Preview - Nov. 3-9, 2025

CROSS COUNTRY

LC State Cross Country opens the postseason on Friday at the 2025 Cascade Conference Cross Country Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, in Salem, Ore. The men will run the 8k at 10 a.m. before the No. 22 women run the 6k at 11 a.m.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

LC State Men’s Basketball, receiving votes in the national poll, is in Butte, Mont., this weekend for the Montana Tech Tip Off Classic for a pair of contests against Frontier Conference opponents. The Warriors will take on Montana Western on Friday before they take on host No. 11 Montana Tech on Saturday.

LC State picked up its first win of the season in a 103-57 victory over Northwest Indian College. Newcomers led the way with 20 points from Carter Hansen, 12 rebounds from Jaaziel Pierce and six assists from Brandon Suber. 

The Warriors face UMW on Friday at 4 p.m. PT with a 34-17 record against the Bulldogs since 2003. LC State last faced Montana Western in 2023 where the Warriors picked up a 75-67 victory in Caldwell. John Lustig scored nine points with five rebounds as a sophomore in the game. 

LC State was edged by the Orediggers last season in Butte by a score of 85-83 but hold a 37-11 record against Montana Tech since 2003. Lustig put together a big game last year in Butte with 22 points on nine field goals to go with 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals. The Warriors last defeated Tech in the 2024 NAIA Second Round with an 85-77 upset over the then-No. 8 Orediggers.

VOLLEYBALL

No. 12 LC State Volleyball (15-6, 12-6) heads into the final week of the regular season with a tough weekend ahead and seeding in the Cascade Conference Volleyball Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, on the line. The Warriors hit the road to face No. 18 College of Idaho (16-9, 10-8) and No. 2 Eastern Oregon (24-2, 16-2).

The Warriors dropped a pair of Top 25 matches last weekend against No. 5 Corban (Ore.) and No. 20 Bushnell (Ore.) and are now tied with Bushnell for third in the CCC standings. The top four seeds advance to the final site of the CCC postseason tournament, while seeds No. 5-No. 8 must compete in the CCC Play-In to advance to the final site. The No. 5 and No. 6 seeds will host the play-in matches. 

LC State is in Caldwell on Friday in a rematch with in-state rival C of I at 4 p.m. PT. The Yotes swept the Warriors in Lewiston this season despite 13 kills by Taylor Boyce and 19 digs by Ella Stosich. Mia Hutchinson led C of I with 15 kills while Shaynee McWilliams totaled 38 assists and 12 digs. 

College of Idaho is second in the conference in blocks per set (2.38).

The Warriors won the first set in the first meeting with EOU this season but ultimately fell in four sets in Lewiston to one of the top teams in the NAIA. Juliauna Forgach Aguilar led that contest with 18 kills and Stosich had a big night with four aces and 21 digs. Teagan Scott led the match with 30 assists, but double-digit kills from EOU’s Keira Vaughn, Kiauna Mack and Brooke Womack overpowered LC State. Mack added seven blocks to her night. 

Eastern Oregon leads the CCC in points per set (19.1), points per set (14.36), attack percentage (.282), assists per set (13.37) and blocks per set (2.60). Mack leads the conference in attack percentage (.394) and blocks per set (1.64, third in the NAIA), Vaughn is second in attack percentage (.313) and third in kills per set (3.40) and aces per set (0.44).

Scott leads the Cascade Conference in assists per set (8.79) and Stosich leads in digs per set (4.49). Forgach Aguilar is second in kills per set (4.29), which ranks sixth in the NAIA, and Lindner is second in blocks per set in the CCC and 10th in the NAIA (1.35).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

No. 7 LC State Women’s Basketball hosts a non-conference tournament this weekend with Montana Western, Eastern Oregon and Park-Gilbert (Ariz.) in Lewiston for four games in two days. The Warriors will face Montana Western on Friday and Park-Gilbert on Saturday. Eastern Oregon will take on Park-Gilbert on Friday and Montana Western on Saturday.

The Warriors enter the weekend with a 2-0 record after season-opening victories over Dickinson State (N.D.) on Oct. 24-25. Darian Herring had a big weekend with an 11-point, 10-rebound, 10-assists triple-double in game one and 17 rebounds in game two. Sitara Byrd totaled 27 points in the season opener and Payton Hymas tallied 18 points with seven assists in the weekend finale. Five Warriors scored in double figures in each game. 

LC State opens its weekend on Friday against former Frontier Conference foe UMW and is 32-13 against the Bulldogs since 2004. The Warriors have won the last five meetings with the most recent in the form of a 78-63 victory in 2023. Hymas tallied 15 points with two blocks and Lindsey Wilson scored 14 points. Montana Western opened its season with a 70-55 upset win over No. 15 Southern Oregon before edging (RV) College of Idaho 78-75.

The Warriors close the weekend against Park-Gilbert on Saturday. LC State picked up an 85-73 victory against the Buccaneers last season in the first meeting between the two programs. Six Warriors scored in double figures led by Tatum Brager’s 19 points on five 3-pointers. Herring totaled 10 points, seven rebounds, six assists, four blocks and three steals. Park-Gilbert is off to a 2-0 start the season with two wins over Nelson (Ariz.).
