VOLLEYBALL
No. 12 LC State Volleyball (15-6, 12-6) heads into the final week of the regular season with a tough weekend ahead and seeding in the Cascade Conference Volleyball Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, on the line. The Warriors hit the road to face No. 18 College of Idaho (16-9, 10-8) and No. 2 Eastern Oregon (24-2, 16-2).
The Warriors dropped a pair of Top 25 matches last weekend against No. 5 Corban (Ore.) and No. 20 Bushnell (Ore.) and are now tied with Bushnell for third in the CCC standings. The top four seeds advance to the final site of the CCC postseason tournament, while seeds No. 5-No. 8 must compete in the CCC Play-In to advance to the final site. The No. 5 and No. 6 seeds will host the play-in matches.
LC State is in Caldwell on Friday in a rematch with in-state rival C of I at 4 p.m. PT. The Yotes swept the Warriors in Lewiston this season despite 13 kills by Taylor Boyce and 19 digs by Ella Stosich. Mia Hutchinson led C of I with 15 kills while Shaynee McWilliams totaled 38 assists and 12 digs.
College of Idaho is second in the conference in blocks per set (2.38).
The Warriors won the first set in the first meeting with EOU this season but ultimately fell in four sets in Lewiston to one of the top teams in the NAIA. Juliauna Forgach Aguilar led that contest with 18 kills and Stosich had a big night with four aces and 21 digs. Teagan Scott led the match with 30 assists, but double-digit kills from EOU’s Keira Vaughn, Kiauna Mack and Brooke Womack overpowered LC State. Mack added seven blocks to her night.
Eastern Oregon leads the CCC in points per set (19.1), points per set (14.36), attack percentage (.282), assists per set (13.37) and blocks per set (2.60). Mack leads the conference in attack percentage (.394) and blocks per set (1.64, third in the NAIA), Vaughn is second in attack percentage (.313) and third in kills per set (3.40) and aces per set (0.44).
Scott leads the Cascade Conference in assists per set (8.79) and Stosich leads in digs per set (4.49). Forgach Aguilar is second in kills per set (4.29), which ranks sixth in the NAIA, and Lindner is second in blocks per set in the CCC and 10th in the NAIA (1.35).
