VANCOUVER, B.C. – LC State opened its 2025 postseason with a 6-1 victory over Oregon Tech in the second game of the Cascade Conference Baseball Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, on Friday. The Warriors used three two-run innings to support a brilliant start on the mound by
Evan Canfield.
Canfield tossed seven scoreless innings while
Brandon Cabrera and
Charlie Updegrave led the offense with a pair of two-run home runs.
The Warriors face the winner of top-seeded UBC and fifth-seeded College of Idaho on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a two-run home run by Updegrave. After a scoreless first inning by Canfield,
Jack Sheward worked a walk before Updegrave's 20
th homer of the season.
Bulla Ephan showed why he earned a CCC Gold Glove for his work behind the plate with a pick off and a runner caught stealing in the top of the fourth. Canfield got the Warriors out of a jam in the top of the seventh with a strikeout with two runners on to keep OIT off the board.
LC State doubled its lead in the bottom of the seventh with three straight hits to start the frame. Cabrera and
Dominic Signorelli each notched singles and
Noah Weintraub drove in a run with a double to right center. An RBI groundout by
Izzy Madariaga gave the Warriors a 4-0 lead.
Jackson Cloud took over on the mound in the eighth after seven shutout innings by Canfield. OIT plated its first run with a solo home run by Julien Jones, but a pair of punchouts by Cloud limited the damage.
The Warriors added two more runs in the home half of the eighth.
Jakob Marquez got the short rally going with a base hit before Cabrera belted a two-run shot over the wall in left for a 6-1 advantage.
Cloud struck out the final batter of the game to seal the victory for LC State in the ninth.

Cabrera led the Warriors at the plate with a 3-for-4 day. Both Cabrera and Updegrave drove in two runs.
LC State pitching limited Oregon Tech to just one run. Canfield tossed seven scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Cloud worked the final two frames and struck out three. He allowed just two hits and did not walk a batter.

The Warriors will take on the winner of tonight's contest between No. 24 British Columbia and College of Idaho on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Vancouver, B.C.
