LE MARS, Iowa – The No. 19 LC State Men's Golf team used a strong second round to climb the leaderboard at the Northwest Iowa National Invitational on Monday. The Warriors sit four strokes back of second place with one round to play on Tuesday. Luke West leads the team individually in a tie for fifth at 7-under at Willow Creek Golf Course.
 
"After a slow start the men really battled to sit in a top three position heading into the final round," coach Zach Anderson said. "All five men contributed today in a big way. I am very pleased with how they managed adversity throughout each round. Impressive rounds by Luke today."
 
No. 14 Marian (Ind.) leads the field at 21-under while LC State sits at 11-under as a team, just four strokes back of No. 5 MidAmerican Nazarene (Kan.) The Warriors shot a 284 in the first round and improved by 11 strokes in the second with a 273. No. 8 Texas Wesleyan is tied with LC State for third place.
 
West was 2-under after the first 18 holes with five birdies before a career-low round of 66 in the second round. He highlighted the day with an eagle on No. 15 to go with four birdies and finish the round 5-under for his 7-under total.
 
Sondre Andresen and Lucas Ortega are tied for 17^th in the field of 74 with matching scores of 2-under. Andresen opened his tournament with a 71 before improving to 69 in the second round.
 
Aaron Brown made his LC State debut and it five strokes behind Andresen and Ortega in a tie for 42^nd His rounds of 74-71 have him 3-over through the first 36 holes. Freshman Adam Lovatt is tied for 49^th at 4-over with round of 78-68. He carded five birdies to shave 10 strokes off his second round.

The competitive NAIA tournament concludes with the final round on Tuesday.
