LAUREL, Mont. – Freshman
Andrea Artusini made his collegiate debut one to remember on Tuesday when he forced a playoff for the individual title at the Beartooth Invitational. He finished in second to start his career and lead the No. 19 LC State Men's Golf team to a second-place finish in Montana.
The Warriors finished 27 strokes ahead of third-place Bellevue (Neb.) and 15 strokes behind team champion and host Rocky Mountain (Mont.). LC State shot 1-over, 289, as a team on Tuesday to finish 8-under for the tournament.
"Can't complain with another under par tournament, but round three just hasn't been ours this year," coach
Zach Anderson said. "If we want to be the team we know we can we are going to have to find a way to finish a tournament. Lots of positives we can take moving forward. Andrea was extremely impressive this week. Although he lost the playoff for the individual title, he showed a lot of grit. He'll learn from this and continue to grow."
Artusini put together another strong round to sit tied for first place at the end of 54 holes. The freshman carded a 3-under, 69, with four birdies to move into a tie at the top and force a playoff. He fell to Rocky Mountain's Jared Smith in the playoff to finish second in the field of 57 golfers.
