SALEM, Ore. – LC State Women's Golf, ranked No. 22 in the Scoreboard rankings, fell just one stroke short of a team title on Sunday in the final round of the Willamette Valley Cup. The Warriors trailed by five strokes after the first round and nearly overtook the 2023 NCAA Division III National Champion George Fox, led by a stellar performance from junior
Isabella Barquet.
"Really stings to lose by one, but it was an awesome battle," coach
Zach Anderson said. "So proud of these women and excited to see where the rest of the semester goes."
LC State's round of 24-over, 308 was the best round by any team in the tournament and helped the Warriors finish second overall at 55-over. The Warriors topped NAIA teams Bushnell (Ore.), who placed fifth, and Corban (Ore.), who finished seventh.
Barquet placed third individually to lead all NAIA competitors in the field. She carded a 6-over on Sunday to finish 10-over in the event. Sophomore
Jane Barry was three strokes back in a tie for fifth place. She also shot 6-over on Sunday to finish 13-over.
Senior
Dallis Shockey shaved five strokes off her first round to finish eighth overall in the field of 53. She shot 5-over in the second round for a total of 15-over. Freshman
Taylor Mire rounded out the top 10 in 10
th place at 18-over for the tournament.
Giulia Belfontali improved by nine spots from day one with a 7-over in her final 18 holes. She finished tied for 17
th along with teammate
Chase Caruso who competed as an individual. Both were 22-over for the tournament.
UP NEXT
The Warriors do not take a break and are back on the course on Monday to open The Warrior Spring Classic at Red Wolf Golf Club in Clarkston. Teams will tee off at 8:30 a.m.
