LEWISTON, Idaho – No. 23 LC State Volleyball wrapped up an undefeated non-conference slate on Saturday with its second consecutive sweep of Montana State-Northern. The Warriors utilized their depth in the 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-22) victory with contributions across the board to conclude the Hells Canyon Grand Invitational.
Kadence Moore and
Michaela Romine each posted career days as key parts of the win.
The victory moves LC State to 6-0 as the Warriors head into Cascade Conference play next weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Hannah Dotson had the hot hand at the service line to start the match for LC State. The junior served five times, including two aces, to help the Warriors out to a 5-0 lead.
Karissa Lindner tallied a kill before a block with
Hadyn Smith for a 7-1 advantage, and the pair each added a kill to make it 9-2.
Taylor Boyce and
Addison Wilson went back-to-back and swings by Wilson,
Alba Carpena and
Mikale Roy fueled a 4-0 run for a 17-10 margin. Kills by Wilson, Carpena, Lindner, Smith and Boyce closed out the set 25-20.
The second set was a back-and-forth battle until MSUN climbed in front 14-11. A kill by
Aubree Lane launched LC State into a five-point run that featured three kills by
Michaela Romine and one by Lindner to put the Warriors ahead 16-14. Two more swings from Romine and another pair from Lane grew the margin to 21-17 before two kills by Smith ended the set 25-20.
MSUN turned the tables in the third frame and pulled ahead to a 12-8 lead. Lane, Boyce, Romine and Smith helped even the score 16-16, but the Skylights answered to take a 21-19 advantage. The freshmen duo of Wilson and Smith combined for back-to-back kills and an ace by Lane capped the three-point run to give LC State a 22-21 edge. Romine added two kills as part of the final three points to end the match with a 25-22 set victory.
STAT RECAP
Smith led the contest with 11 kills and Romine added a career-high 10 on a .364 attack percentage. Lindner had a solid night with eight kills at a clip of .438 to go with two blocks.
All three Warrior setters recorded double-digit assists, led by
Sammi Humphrey with 18.
Kendall Focht dished out 17 and
Teagan Scott added 14. Dotson and Stout each dealt two service aces.
Kadence Moore led the back row with a career-high 16 digs and Stout collected nine.
LC State hit .240 as a team and held MSUN to .150.
UP NEXT
The Warriors open Cascade Conference play next weekend with the longest road trip of the conference season. LC State takes on No. 22 Southern Oregon on Sept. 4 at 6 p.m., before a match at Oregon Tech on Sept. 5 at 5 p.m.
